Here we have a wonderful example of a Southern Rhone red from the sometimes overlooked Lirac AOC. Often overshadowed by heavyweight neighbour Chateauneuf-du-pape, Lirac wines can offer great value for money, whilst still packing the big, bold yet elegant flavour profiles expected of the Rhone region.
A vibrant ruby appearance paves the way for a pronounced intensity of aromas. Black cherry, spice and a hint of oak greet you on the nose with the palate continuing the theme and developing in complexity.
This is a big full-bodied red with a brilliant balance of ripe black fruits and savoury earthy mineral qualities. Liquorish and herbs also set the scene for a long, bold finish with a good level of acidity.
This is definitely a wine I will look out for in the future, as well as thoroughly inspiring me to continue my search for more Southern Rhone gems!
